Kim Larsen had an emergency appendectomy on October 11, 2017.  He is recovering very well.  Our healing thoughts go out to Kim and Darlene.

Mary Anne Bratburd was a longtime member of UUCJ until she moved to Virginia in 2008 to be near family.  She passed away on September 29, 2017 in Fairfax, Virginia at the age of 90.  A burial service was held on October 23, 2017 at Arlington Cemetery in Jacksonville, Florida.

Our sincere sympathy goes out to Mary Anne’s family.

Jacksonville native and longtime member  of UUCJ, Rev. Douglas D. Knight, passed away on October 19, 2017 in New York City at the age of 82.  He worked with the late Bob Towers to organize the Buckman Bridge Unitarian Universalist Church.  A private family burial will be at a later date.

Condolences go out to Mary Jane and her family.

Generosity in Action for November 2017

The Generosity in Action honoree for this month is Michael Plummer. A long-time member of our UUCJ family, Michael has been the invisible hand behind the development of the 2003, 2008, 2013, and the 2017 Triennial Members Surveys. He also handled a mini survey this year designed to determine congregational priorities. The survey results help our Board and the COM determine current conditions and align future plans and programs with congregants’ hopes and desires.

Mike’s unselfish sharing of his expertise is greatly appreciated as are his silent partners in the development of surveys; his wife Linda Plummer, and his daughter, Amanda, who helps with deciphering and categorizing hundreds of respondents’ comments.

Holiday Choir

Yes!  Our program is December 10.  Rehearsals start Sunday, October 29 at 12:30  to 1:30 in the chapel.  Our theme is Endings and Beginnings and how they are celebrated in many traditions, Jewish, Japanese, Native American, etc.  Music readers and non-readers of all ages are welcome.  You will receive a CD with your part so you can rehearse at home when necessary.  For questions and encouragement, contact Sharon Scholl

Mission Budget Workshop

The Board and Finance Committee invite you to attend the 2018 Mission Budget Workshop on Saturday, October 28. It will be held from 9:00 to 12:00 in the Social Room. The purpose of the meeting will be explain the proposed Mission Budget and get feedback from members about priorities. The Finance Committee and Board will use that feedback plus results of the Mission Funding Effort to recommend a balanced Mission Budget to the Congregation. Information about the Mission Budget will be communicated in advance of the December 10 Congregational meeting as in past years.
