There will be a small intimate Memorial Service for Carolyn Maddox on Friday, Nov 17th at 3pm here at the church. There will be no reception following.
Imagine you are a young woman with children, fleeing violence in Central America. You are locked up in a family detention center, but with the help of UUSC and its Refugee partner organization in Texas, you receive legal assistance. When we start “Guest at Your Table” on Nov. 19th, you can read all about it.
November’s Geneoristy in Action honoree is Nancy Ratnour. Nancy has been part of the fundraising committee. As a talented artist, she has headed up the annual craft fair, contributing her own hand-crafted jewelry to help raise money for the church.
She also has been a part of the group that feeds the church cats on a regular basis. She is a big cat lover and advocate.
Nancy has had cancer for some time, and has received many treatments (including proton therapy which she is currently undergoing). However, she never complains, and she continues to grace us with her smiles, attend church functions and contribute her talents to our church community.
Next time you see Nancy, be sure to thank her for all she does!

See the concert table in the Social Hall for advance tickets to the Reggie Harris/Greg Greenway concert, Deeper Than the Skin, Friday, Dec. 8, 7:00 pm, at UUCJ. Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for kids (17 and under) in advance. At the door, tickets go up to $20 for adults, so don’t delay. This presentation was given at the UUA’s General Assembly in June for a national (even international) audience and is currently touring around the U.S., so we are very lucky to have it here.
Also mark your calendars for our next concert to be given by David Roth on Sat., Jan. 13, also at UUCJ.
The next book discussion will be on Mark Sullivans novel, Beneath a Scarlet Sky. The group will meet at 1:00 pm on Mon., Dec. 4, at Books-a-Million near Regency. The novel is inspired by a true story of an Italian teenager who saved many Jews at the end of WWII by leading them over the Alps to Switzerland.
Nov. 14 at Christ the King Catholic Church, 720 Arlington Rd. N, at 7 PM
