Speaker Bio for February 24th: Reverend Doctor David P. Calhoun, D. Min.

David was born in Alabama. His father was a United Methodist Minster. He is the youngest of three sons. David made the decision to enter the ministry his senior year of high school.

Mr. Calhoun graduated from the University of Alabama. He then attended Candler School of Theology at Emory University where he received his Masters of Divinity degree in 1976. David served appointments in the North Alabama Conference before moving to North Carolina. David joined the Western North Carolina Conference and served churches in Stokesdale, Thomasville, Walkertown, Winston Salem, Wilkesboro and Mooresville. He received his Doctor of Ministry degree from Hood Theological Seminary.

David’s emphases during his ministry were preaching, worship and biblical studies for the local church. He taught Disciple Bible Studies in each of his churches for more than 20 years. David also participated in the United Methodist pulpit exchange and preached in Swindon, UK for a summer.

His son, Joshua is a Lieutenant Commander in the U S Navy and is stationed in Jacksonville, Florida. Joshua and his wife, Amanda are have just had Jonathan David Calhoun, David’s first grandson!

David presently resides in Kernersville, NC. David’s pursuits include sleight of hand, reading, and travel. He is also struggling to learn to play the guitar.
