From the Minister

Special Collection: Northeast Florida Healthy Start Coalition

The Healthy Start Coalition leads a cooperative community effort to reduce infant mortality and improve the health of children, childbearing women and their families in Northeast Florida. Our speaker will be Lisa Read- Community Projects Liaison.  Lisa will inform us of the work of this life saving organization as well as the many positive changes that have occurred in the past year that allows outreach to more families so that every baby can begin life with a healthy start.   Donations…

Arlington Community Services Update

Keep Up The Good Work—We Delivered 292 lbs. in January without True Up UUCJ/ACS Teamsters delivered 77 pounds this week to Arlington Community Services.  Even though it is early in the year, we are on pace to meet our 2021 Goal of 3500 lbs. ACS sends us a monthly total of UUCJ contributions.  We use this total to true up total donations. Caring Candles

Michael Aiken.  Mike was transferred to Consulate Health Care on 4101 Southpoint Drive E., Jacksonville,  FL 32216 on January 13, 2021 after he tested negative.  Visitors are still not allowed. Martha says Mike sounds better every day. Leisla Sansom.  Leisla is receiving  physical therapy and occupational therapy at her home.  She is doing more walking without a walker or a cane.  Leisla may be evaluated next week and possibly discharged from her therapy programs.

Arlington Community Services Update

Great Start in 2021 for UUCJ’s Effort to Support ACS As mentioned last time, the UUCJ Special Collection—which is still being tallied—will be over $2,000.  One family donated $1,000.  One of the regular supporters gave their stimulus check, giving us a total of $2,600.  In December, Mary Louise Weber, Executive Director at ACS, indicated that the current needs are:  canned fruit, jelly, peanut butter, pudding cups, tuna/salmon in pouches or pop tops, toothpaste, detergent, masks, and clean white T-shirts (L,…

30 Days of Love

Our mission is “By serving compassionately and connecting authentically we change the world.” Combine  that with “Love is the doctrine of this church” and you may be inspired to participate in the UUA’s “30 Days of Love.” This program, which runs from January 17-February 14, has individual learning paths as well as live Zoom events.  Check it out at https://sidewithlove.org/thirty-days-of-love. New Normal Team Update

The incidence of COVID-19 infections in our area, as in the rest of the nation, has been increasing over the last several weeks to a level that is the highest since the beginning of the pandemic.  The percentage of positive tests, cases per 100,000 population, hospitalizations, death rates, and other measures of disease activity are all rising.  The rollout of effective vaccines has started, but the availability has been limited.  And our body takes several weeks to develop an effective antibody response that…

Arlington Community Services Update

Happy New Year and Our Goal is 3500 for 2021! Mary Louis Weber, Director of ACS, indicated that we contributed 497 pounds from UUCJ and 17 from the Arlington Community Garden in December.  I updated the total for 2020 to 4461, which is 1261 pounds over our goal.  A special thanks to Arlington Community Garden—and its sponsors that include Green Sanctuary—for the fresh produce.
